I am a huge supporter of the Women in STEM (WiSTEM) community throughout my studies in engineering. I was a founding member of the Women in STEM club chapter at my high school, and I also joined the club in university, UW WiSTEM.

Throughout my years on the team, I have had the chance to meet many successful women in the field, and learn more about all their experiences.

WiSTEM Chinguacousy Secondary School

In my senior years of high school, I was a founding member of the Women in STEM club chapter at my school. While working on the team, we organized several panel and workshop style events. See below for more information!

Biomedical Engineering Career Panel

We hosted a biomedical engineering career panel featuring Dr. Jennifer Boger from the University of Waterloo, an expert in designing ambient home-based systems. She shared her journey into the field, discussed the role of ethics in biomedical engineering, highlighted challenges faced as a woman in STEM, and much more.

The event was incredibly insightful and inspired me to pursue Biomedical Engineering at Waterloo! Here is a link to watch the panel: https://youtu.be/f4_pewS_R10?si=esAwJLRD9s3S9jMk.

Graphic Design Career Panel

We were joined by a former student from our high school named Shivanna who pursued a graphic design career. She answered questions from students relating to how she entered this field. The panel ended with a student-led workshop about how Canva and Figma can be used to build graphic design projects.

STEAM TALKS Panel Week

In 2022, our team hosted a week-long event where we were joined by various industry experts, undergraduate students in the field, and community members who hosted a panel for our students. We had 5 speakers total.

Each speaker presented during one of the panel days during the week. We had a speaker to represent each field of STEAM: science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. It was an exciting opportunity to build a connection with professionals and undergraduate students in the field!
